DLA Piper assisted PokerStars – belonging to Amaya Inc – to successfully conclude its tax audit with the Italian tax authorities, covering the years 2009 to 2014. PokerStars has paid €5.9 million as a final settlement, reflecting a transfer pricing adjustment. The Italian authorities originally estimated a transfer pricing adjustment to increase the taxable income by approximately €300 million.
DLA Piper assisted PokerStars throughout the entire tax inspection and negotiation process, which started in 2011.
The DLA Piper Tax team was composed by partner Christian Montinari and senior associate Giovanni Iaselli, jointly with the Italian Head of Tax Antonio Tomassini, and worked together with the gambling and gaming team led by partner Giulio Coraggio.
